This page is a collection of  ‘sprations that make me happy and help me to slow down and recenter.   Perhaps there is something here that will be inpsirational to you too!  Feel free to add links to your own ‘sprations.

“Love is an opening rather than a closing, an expansion rather than a contraction; it is the opposite of the constriction of fear.  Perhaps along with this expansive emotional feeling, cells might also shift, relaxing the body, allowing more relaxed breathing, calmness of mind and body, a release of all that divides us from one another. “

By Caryle Hirshberg.  From Consciousness and healing: Integral Approaches to Mind-Body Medicine.  Page 162.

“Just Dance.  Gonna be ok. Duh-Duh-Duh-Duh.  Dance. Dance. Dance. Just Dance.”   Lady Gaga — this is most effective at mood improvement if you listen to it loudly in your kitchen while dancing around it a fool in the company of close friends :)

I snapped this at the Lyndale Rose Garden last summer.  It currently is reminding me that Minnesota can indeed by warm and beautiful, lush things are capable of growing here :)

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

— Wendell Berry — I read a lot of his stuff in college, wanna be hippie days.

I love Alvin Ailey’s Revelations.  So beautiful and simple and innovative and intelligently crafted and……..  This link will take you to a youtube clip.  Watch it!

Happiness is a butterfly, which, when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you sit down quietly, may alight upon you.

  1. I love your blog, Kate! Apart from making me really hungry, it inspires me to make more delicious natural yumminess. Loved the last one at Anne’s house and all the candids… made me miss all my lovely Olaf friends. I’d love to hear more about what you’re doing these days…drop me a line sometime. I’ll be up in the Twin Cities over Labor Day and am hoping to get together with some Olaf friends. Thanks again for your delightful blog! You are awesome:)
